On 19th January 2022, the ChinaUrban project hosted an online seminar to discuss the mobility of planning theories. Professor Yvonne Rydin was invited to discuss this issue based on her experience and understanding. Dr. Fangzhu Zhang then reflected on doing urban research in China and reflecting more widely. The event attracted more than 60 participants.

On 8th December 2021, the ChinaUrban project hosted an online workshop to discuss Chinese neighbourhood governance. It included three speakers from Sun Yat-sen University, University of Warwick and Shanghai Jiaotong University and a discussant from Hong Kong University. The event attracted more than 50 participants.

Urban Regeneration in China: What Model Now?

On 14th October 2021, the ChinaUrban project hosted an online workshop to discuss the latest model of urban redevelopment in China based on observations in Yongqingfang. It included five speakers from UCL, Sun Yat-sen University, Renmin University and Peking University and attracted more than 140 participants.

The financialisation of Chinese Cities & the Real Estate Industry 

Speakers: Prof. Fulong Wu; Prof. Tao Wang; Dr. Yue Zhang

Invited by the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), Professor Fulong Wu presented as a panel member in the panel seminar. This event discussed the trend of financialisation in Chinese cities. It attracted 50 participants from India and other countries. 

Prof. Wu illustrated new reflections on the changing governance in financializing Chinese cities based on five stories, including historical stages, land financialization, crisis management, development finance and urban regeneration. Dr. Yue Zhang gave a presentation on the growth and redevelopment of urban villages with a special focus on social structures and informal urbanization. Prof. Tao Wang illustrated the trend of land financialization in China and related local problems.
